About Us

I’m so interested in ways people change each other. When you’re with someone, you are not the same person necessarily you are when you’re with someone else. Especially if it’s someone you’re close to… the space between people becomes a person.

Tara and K-K’s love of fandom is the basis of their friendship, and they chatted about the possibility of a Steven Universe Con for a long time before making the decision to found Beach City Con. Tara frequents many fan conventions and took note of how vibrant and ever-increasing the Steven Universe con community is, while K-K is immersed in the online community and knew firsthand how special an exclusively SU event could be for its fans. Both of them cover Steven Universe for The Geekiary. During Ice & Fire Con 2016, it was decided: they would begin official plans for the first-ever Steven Universe Fan Convention.

A Steven Universe convention is naturally suited for a beach location, and the first Beach City Con was even in “Delmarva,” at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center. The venue is right on the ocean and has experience hosting many different types of conventions. While Beach City Con 2017 capped weekend passes between 400-500 people, we hope to grow each year in the most organic ways possible. Saga Event Planning, the parent company of both Ice & Fire Con and Beach City Con, is dedicated to events that are not-for-profit, fan-run, and intimate. There is nothing better than spending a weekend making friends with like minded fans!

After the success of 2017, Tara stepped down into the position of Programming Coordinator of Beach City Con, and K-K stepped down to be the Logistics Coordinator of Ice & Fire Con, so each convention can receive year-round attention from its corresponding organizer.
